According to a recently released study, Australian sales and marketing professionals are performing better than their global counterparts.

The Black Report, published by lead generation business 360 Leads, studied C-level, sales leadership and marketing executive practices across six continents.

Lead generation is an increasingly important part of any business as consumers are more likely to connect with organisations with strong marketing and advertising campaigns. Of the businesses surveyed, 78.5 per cent have actively conducted lead generation programs in the past year, yet just 17.3 per cent are currently meeting their goals and targets.

It was revealed that Australian companies are getting the best results globally, with 21.7 per cent of companies reaching their targets.

CEO of 360 Leads Stuart Lewis offered an explanation to why Australia's companies are performing better than their global counterparts.

"Australia's resilient GDP growth in 2012 and 2013, with Europe struggling to reach 1 per cent, may be a factor in stronger relative performance," he said.

"In addition, geography isolates Australia from a certain amount of market clutter, and that may enable Australian companies to more effectively connect with their domestic target audiences."

According to The Black Report, outbound telemarketing, email marketing and digital marketing are the best forms of lead generation practice. However, many businesses said these techniques were hindered by internal company issues and low budgets.

Other insights from The Black Report include that Australian companies undertake more sales generation than North American businesses. Additionally, 43.5 per cent of Australian organisations - compared to just 31 per cent of European businesses - believe they have enough active data to be successful in lead generation activities.

360 Leads' Country Manager for Australia, Dan Cadieux, revealed some insight into local sales and marketing professionals.

"Since they have had to look at alternatives to email marketing for more than a decade, they likely have become more resourceful, and more experienced, in using a variety of sales lead generation channels, such as social media," he explained.

"I'd expect that shared internal commitment, know-how and teamwork sum up what delivers."
